Folks -
Well, there... it's all sheathed and shingled! Talk about trying to jump
through your own a ss hole... Boy oh boy! We've been working crazy-hard,
but now have the addition in a hat and its' underpants.
Rose & Rose's dad, God bless them both, did virtually all of the sheathing
of the trusses and ladder work. I have "issues" with heights, and they both
jumped in on it like white on rice. We had the good sense to call in for a
roofer to put down the felt and shingles. They did a good job and worked
quickly, tho' we had a few days of wet on the tarpaper before it dried out
enough to get shingles down.
[ START - SEMI -OT RANT: The only problem we had with the roofing crew is
that none of the three could speak English worth a damn, and I haven't had
any serious Spanish since I was in short pants in Jr. High. The Contractor
was bilingual and was a good fellow, but HE didn't show up. I asked in
advance if we had EVERYTHING that was needed to do the job and he said YES.
Fool = ME! His crew showed up and started asking for
redaaa-la-el-torsionecuia la bamba esuvianortensicamentorsescobar... Chico!
So between the Mexicans and the Gringos trying to figure it out, it looked
like a Chinese fire drill! Having SOMEONE conversant in English should be a
given, if only for safety reasons. Rant OFF ]
The last two days, Rose and I have put up the remaining wall sheathing,
straightened up some of the construction debris and cleaned up inside the
building, removing the temporary truss-support walls. Tomorrow we should be
able to get a nailing inspection for the wall sheathing, then it's on to
siding, windows and doors.. I am ITCHING to get some equipment inside....
I've posted a few pictures in ABPW... Here's a link to a slideshow that Rose
put together with additional photos.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm either going to have to learn Spanish,
or get comfortable with doing more heavy construction work than I've done
for a while...
(The crew on the project next door spoke only Cantonese...)
Nice work, Rose, FIL & John.
Patriarch,
who doesn't _do_ roofing any more, either. |
