Hello Eveyone-
I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with. We recently purchased a new "older" home with beautiful, but dark, solid wood cabinets. The workmanship is awesome. But, I would like to lighten them just a bit.
My husband and I lived in Europe for several years and lived next to an older Flemish gentleman who did woodworking projects. He turned antique single beds into benches. Beautiful work! Anyway, he once told me that he used amonia on darker stained beds to lighten them. Has anyone ever heard of this and/or tried this out? Do you think it will work? Any advice wil be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much! |

You would have to strip off any finishes to have any effect on the stain or wood. Forget about it. the most likely outcome is a distroyed piece. Love it for what it is and the time period in which it was built.
